| Tyra 3 months. |
Tyra is a happy, kind dog and has a lot of humor. She was a pretty kind puppy, compared to Tessi! But she has of course, been chewing our shoes and lots of other things that her "father" and "mother" didn't manage to save. And she had some rather mad periods and made her own attempts to make her way to the top of the rank position in the family.
Tessi didn't wish her hartley welcome and she was not overwhelmed when Tyra entered our family. Tessi was nine years old and was not used to any kind of competitor. Tyra on the other hand, young and unexperienced puppy was tremendously happy to meet Tessi. And she was determent to play with Tessi all the time. It went quite well in the start, but as Tyra rapidly grew up and as we believe possible gave Tessi some rough treatment, Tessi became even more grumpy towards Tyra. After a while Tessis behavior was more strange and at that time we discovered a damage tooth on her. We immediately took her to the veterinarian and after a simple procedure the tooth was healed and TEssi totality changed. She accepted Tyra and was much more patient with Tyra. As time passed Tyra became tuff. But unfortunately the first period together with Tessi was a bit to much for Tyra. All of the sudden we saw that she was panicly afraid of other dogs. When she was 4 months old we started an intensive social training with other dogs. With exteremly good help of the breeder Ronny, Kennel Happy Devotion. The social training was very successful. And her behavior improve a lot.
We have tried out several things. Tracking, obedience, clicker, traning
tricks and agility. The last couple of years have been mostly agility and
clickertraning. The clicker training part have been more to teach tricks but
also for Tyra to overcome the fear of some things as moving basis and to increase
her motivation. She really loves the clicker and when I have the clicker she
is willing to do almost anything.
Agility is something we have "worked on". Tyra loves it but it has been a
long way to come to where we are now. I have had to learn a lot about Tyra,
what motivates her and how to use my body to make her understand. But the
most important lesson for me has been to learn to read Tyra.
A wonderful dog with lots of humor! With no doubt I can say that she is
a sofa-lover. When a rainy day forget to go for a walk. When you can curl
into the sofa!!!!! Are you crazy whats the point of getting cold and wet??
Well, she is not a exception there....what Ridgeback likes rainy and cold
weather....
Though she can be "difficult" to convince that its sunny and "only" some degrees
below zero, lets go for cross country skiing. Its cold.... BUT if we can go
really fast or bring some sweets or if some of us can hide so she has the
pleasure of findings one of us then...we are talking!!! Yeah, not always but
sometimes you really have to convince her (forget if rainy day). But believe
it or not she has no problem training agility when its raining..... As long
as the motivation is high she will do anything...
